The Zavvi ZBox is a monthly box shipped from the UK in the geek box mould. It’s a themed box, with this month’s theme being Animation.

The standard price for this one, including UK shipping is £19.99 GBP (about $30 USD). Unusually, you can also get this shipped to the US for only an additional 99c (a bargain!).

Previously, you had to buy the Zavvi ZBox on a month-by-month basis. That option is still available, but Zavvi has also just added a subscription option – a great way to save a bit of cash and guarantee delivery every month.

Shipping for this box within the UK took 48 hours from the dispatch email, delivered by a courier firm.

Box Contents

Wasabi No-Ginger POP! Vinyl From Disney Big Hero 6

The list price on Amazon.com is $11 USD, although this is available with Prime shipping for around $7 USD. The UK price is £9 GBP.

South Park Fridge Magnet “Screw You Guys” (Exclusive)

This is an exclusive magnet. For value purposes, other South Park Magnets sell for around $5 USD on Amazon.com. There are some really cool designs.

Thundercats Lenticular Postcard (Exclusive)

Moving this card shows the two different images. Another exclusive, I’d value this at $5 USD based on similar items.

Thundercats Badge

Similar official badges on Amazon.com are surprisingly expensive, with packs of 4 badges for $10 USD. Based on that, I’ll value this at $2 USD.

Ultimate Spider-Man Candy Sticks

This design is UK made and sells in bulk for 60 packs for about £4 GBP. The selling price per pack is 10p. For that, you also get a collectible sticker in the pack.

I should add that these had an unpleasant perfumed taste, nothing like how I remember “sweet cigarettes” of old.

Transformers Stress Ball – Optimus Prime

Different packages have different Transformers. Optimus Prime sells for £6 GBP ($9 USD) on Amazon.co.uk. I couldn’t find him on Amazon.com, but I did find Bumblebee Transformer Stress Ball on Amazon.com, selling for $14 USD. This is a UK product, so the US sellers have no doubt imported it, explaining the higher price.

Uncle Scrooge Comic Issue #1 (Exclusive Cover Variant)

This month is a relaunch for Uncle Scrooge (Legacy Issue #405) and this is an exclusive cover for the ZBox. Cover price is $3.99 USD.

Disney Pixar Blind Bag With Mini Figure

There bags contain a random mini figure from a different Disney Pixar film franchise, such as Toy Story, Finding Nemo or Monsters University. There are 8 figures to collect. The manufacturer says that these retail as a box of 24 packs for £36 GBP, so this can be valued at £1.50 GBP. In practice, these aren’t easily found in the UK, so probably sell for more.

Mini Mag On Animation

Not much to the mag, but it’s useful to have the descriptions of the box contents.

Box Review

I remember when this box arrived thinking it was a little light. Thankfully, that isn’t reflected with the contents, including lots of items to enjoy.

Very unusually, for a geek box, there’s no T-Shirt in this one. To me, that’s not a problem, as there are more T-Shirts arriving in other boxes then I’d ever have time to wear. Having a POP! more than makes up for it and Wasabi No-Ginger is a real cool looking POP!.

I really like the Transformers Stress Ball (not really a ball, but I don’t know what else you’d call it) and the other items are all interesting. Just the Candy Sticks that missed the mark, but always good to have something sweet in these boxes. Trying to hold off from opening the Blind Bag.

The comic looks fun and glad that Uncle Scrooge is still going (who I remember from Duck Tales).

Getting a total value is difficult, due to the mix of stock available in the UK and US and that some items are hard to find/exclusive. You’d be looking at around £30 GBP ($45 USD) to compile these contents for yourself, and probably much more once postage charges are figured in.

For the quality of the items, the variety and the exclusives, this box is excellent value.

I’ll certainly be changing my monthly order into a subscription now that one’s available.
