I didn’t expect to end up with a second Lucky Dip Zavvi ZBox. I purchased one in June and wasn’t very impressed with the value for money.

But Zavvi released an offer providing a Lucky Dip free with the purchase of their monthly ZBox. So, I now have a second of these.

The concept of the Lucky Dip is like other boxes of this type, to bring you remainder stock from previous boxes. There were a couple of small items in this box I hadn’t seen before, but it’s not clear if they were additional items especially added.

To give you an idea of pricing, the main ZBox is normally £20 GBP ($30 USD). The previous Lucky Dip box was £10 GBP ($15 USD) which is the value I’d be looking for from the contents. Those prices include postage. I’ve received most of the contents before, so for ease of reviewing, I’ll stick with the same value assessments.

Order to dispatch took around a week. Dispatch to receiving the Lucky Dip took about two days. This was delivered by one of my least preferred couriers, but arrived without incident.

Packaging was good, with a standard ZBox and a plastic sleeve around that. Being a Lucky Dip, there was no information card with the box and no particular theme.

Box Contents

Stan Lee’s Superhumans Two DVD Set

This was in the May 2015 ZBox and is a cardboard case repackaging of a documentary series.

The standard edition sells for $6 USD on Amazon.com.

Hero Attax Collector Tin

This was in the May 2015 box. There, it also came with six trading cards.

On its own, the tin doesn’t hold much value, so I’ll half my previous value to $5 USD. It is a decent looking tin that could be repurposed.

Liono Thundercats Badge

This is a cheap little badge that was in the April 2015 box. I’ll keep the value at $2 USD.

Secret Wars Comic #1 (Exclusive Cover)

This was in the May 2015 box. Cover price is $4.99.

There are a lot of different exclusive covers for this, given away one place or another, so I suspect that this comic won’t hold its value.

Thundercats Lenticular Postcard

This was in the April 2015 ZBox and the June 2015 Lucky Dip. Fun, but not much more use.

I value this at $5 USD.

South Park Fridge Magnet

My third one of these (also in the April 2015 box and the June Lucky Dip).

I still like the design and still value this at $5 USD.

Wolverine Vinyl Sticker

This is sold at Zavvi, although I can’t find any indication it’s ever been in a regular ZBox.

Nice enough, but sells very cheap, so I’ll price it at $1 USD.

Lego City Swamp Police Helicopter

Ok, I’m a little over the target age range, but there’s something about Lego that’s just fun. First time I’ve ever received Lego in a geek subscription box.

From looking around, I can see that this was in the June 2015 box, which I don’t already own. This comes in a nice plastic bag with 51 Lego pieces and is Lego item 30311.

The Lego City Swap Police Helicopter sells for $8 USD on Amazon.com.

Box Review

I make that $37 USD of value. I wouldn’t pay that much for several of the items, but still, this is pretty decent for a free box.

There are quite a few low value items in there and a lot of duplicates, but this is much better than I expected based on the previous Lucky Dip ZBox I received.

The previous Lucky Dip had only 5 items and they all looked cheap. With eight items, this was much more fun to unbox – even though I now have triples of two items.

It is a pity that the goods weren’t taken from across more different boxes. There’s a lot from the April and May ZBox, both of which I purchased at the time. I do like the bit of Lego on the box.

One thing I have worked out with Zavvi is that there are often sales and discounts on the ZBox. I’ve even seen them selling previous ZBox stock at 2 for the price of 1 on several occasions. That does mean that my recommendation to get value from these has to be to wait until there’s a good offer on.

Overall, a big improvement! Another Lucky Dip bonus box would certainly entice me to buy another ZBox from Zavvi. Now, to wait to see what’s in the main box this month.
