Loot Crate recently made an offer to pick up a special Mystery Crate from them, to be made up of a collection of items from previous boxes. I decided to give one of their Mystery Crate options a go, perhaps unusually, the option of a box without a T-Shirt (as I have so many from previous geek boxes that I just haven’t had the chance to wear yet).

Including shipping to the UK, this special box came in at $20 USD (about £14 GBP), making this one of the lowest price geek boxes I’ve ever ordered. The box arrived with me around a fortnight afterwards, packaged up in the usual Loot Crate style.

As this was a Mystery Crate and every buyer is likely to receive a different combination of items, there was no information card included. But there was some good stuff inside.

Box Contents

Han Solo Funko POP! Vinyl (Exclusive)

A cool item to start off with. This was an exclusive POP! found in the December 2015 Loot Crate and new to me, as I didn’t buy this box at the time.

You can see a variety of Han Solo POP!s on Amazon.com. The price of this one varies a lot depending on what guide you use. Based on recent sales, I’m going to stick with a standard of $10 USD, but this may easily sell for double or triple that with the right people looking.

Batman Vs Superman Mighty Wallet (Exclusive)

This is a recent duplicate for me, as it was in the March 2016 Loot Crate. No real issue with that though, as I was bound to get some duplicate items and this was an exclusive.

I do have a challenge these Mighty Wallets (made of Tyvex and impossible to rip) as they just don’t hold coins or have capacity for most of the things I need to carry in a wallet. I’m hoping to get a standard wallet in a geek box some day.

My usual value for these wallets, which I’ll stick with this time, is $10 USD.

Star Trek Air Freshener

This is a vanilla air freshener, designed to hang in a car (or anywhere really).

This is a duplicate item for me, as it was in the July 2015 Loot Crate, but that isn’t a problem, as it’s also a useful item. There’s always somewhere that will benefit from a bit of scent.

I’ll stick with the value I assigned then of $5 USD.

Spy Mad Libs Word Game

This was in the first Loot Crate I ever received, the Covert box. That was the March 2015 Loot Crate, before I started assigning values to the contents.

These are fun books, where you get given a type of word to come up with (such as a noun or a part of the body) and this then forms part of a story. It doesn’t hurt to have a spare, as it means you can play the same game again.

The Spy Mad Libs is available on Amazon.com. The typical value is $4 USD.

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft Stress Ball

This is an item that I thought was rubbish when I first received it (in the September 2015 Loot Crate box) and my view hasn’t changed since.

It’s just a cheap looking stress ball without much give to it and was surely a promotional item.

To be consistent, I’ll stick with the same value I used first time around, which looks rather generous now at $5 USD.

Space Invaders Tie (Exclusive)

I remember seeing this before I became a Loot Crate subscriber and thinking how cool it was. This tie was in the January 2015 Loot Crate.

It’s made by Black Tie Geek and it’s a skinny style tie, with a black background and silver space invaders. A product that’s going straight onto my tie rotation list.

Thinking about it, there are surprisingly few ties in geek boxes, which is a shame, as they must be some of the cheaper clothing items to produce and to post.

Being an exclusive, this is always going to be hard to price. I’ll go for $10 USD, as there are some people selling their ties on at around that price point.

Box Review

Geek subscription boxes are always a gamble. Boxes filled with items from previous months are even more of a gamble, as it’s hard to know if they will be duplicates or not.

I’m very happy with this Loot Crate Mystery Crate, as although only two items were new to me, both of those items were really cool. I’m thinking particularly of the Han Solo POP! and the Space Invaders tie.

I get $44 USD of value, which is more than double the shipped price. The real pricing for this one is slightly fluid, as really I should value some of the cheaper duplicate items at a lower point this time, but I may also have undervalued the POP! which balances this out.

Loot Crate always has some of the coolest exclusive items, which explains why its boxes are shipped worldwide in the thousands. You can’t go far wrong giving them a try for yourself.
