Loot Crate Level Up Socks Subscription Review – October 2015

Level Up is a relatively new companion subscription to the Loot Crate monthly boxes, providing the opportunity to buy additional items each month.

There are three Level Up subscriptions available. The first, which is the one reviewed here, provides two pairs of mystery socks. The second provides a wearable item (this month, this was a pullover). The final option provides two accessories (this month, these were a necklace and cinch belt).

All the items are themed the same as the main Loot Crate package, which this month had the intriguing theme of Time.

The socks arrived in plastic wrap and conveniently fit straight into my letter box. For consistency, I’ll continue to use the term box throughout this review.

Delivery took around two weeks from the shipping notification email (slow – but much faster than the regular monthly Loot Crate this time).

The standard month-by-month subscription price for the Level Up socks is $12.99 USD (£9 GBP) including shipping to the UK, which is relatively pricey for two pairs of socks. I took advantage of a discount offered by Loot Crate to try out the subscription.

I believe that the Level Up subscriptions can now all be purchased independently of the main Loot Crate if desired.

Box Contents

Albert Einstein Socks (Exclusive)

I had no idea that Einstein socks were a thing, but there are plenty of examples of Einstein socks on Amazon.com.

These are made by Bioworld and are a mix of polyester and spandex and have a spandex feel to them. These are long socks with no discernible heal.

The design is rather bright for me, but some people will like them.

Similar socks made by Bioworld sell for around $10 USD.

Spider-man 2099 Socks (Exclusive)

This pair of long socks has a more traditional look and feel to them. These are officially licensed by Marvel and have a simple logo design with webbing.

There are plenty of Spider-man socks available on Amazon.com, although I can’t find any more for the more unusual Spider-man 2099 francise.

These are also manufactured by Bioworld and although the pricing for Spider-man socks varies a lot, I’ll stick with the standard of $10 USD.

Box Review

This is a fun subscription. Socks are common items and a subscription like this adds a bit of fun to your day.

I value these at $10 USD per pair, $20 USD total, which is above the cost price, although in reality I wouldn’t pay that much for character socks.

The Einstein pair is rather flamboyant for my taste, but the Spider-man 2099 pair hits the mark.

I will Level Up again and perhaps try the wearable subscription too, but it won’t be on a monthly basis. This is better than many of the other geek mystery subscription opportunities on the market.
