I didn’t originally plan to get this Horror Block, but the teasers for the subscription interested me, especially the exclusive Ghostbusters item. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a total miss, as it was the same exclusive item as in Nerd Block.

This is sharp practice but not unknown from the Nerd Block family. I also received duplicate items in two of their recent Grab Blocks.

On a more positive note, Horror Block is a well-constructed block for those people into the horror and gore genre. Delivery of this box to the UK was around a week from the dispatch email, which is excellent. Incidentally, I’m still awaiting Arcade Block, which is normally sent at the same time.

Horror Block cost $32.49 USD shipped to the UK, including discounts, which is about £22 GBP.

Delivery into the UK is through Royal Mail.

Box Contents

I Love Evil T-Shirt (Exclusive)

This pays homage to The Evil Dead. I think $10 USD is a fair value for T-Shirts.

Killer Shots Shot Glasses

These are imported from the UK and are easiest to find as four glasses for a recommended price of £8 GBP. You can buy Killer Shot Glasses on Amazon.com, but the price is more expensive.

Since there are only two glasses here, I’ll value them at £4 GBP.

Ghostbusters Ecto-1 Vinyl Car (Exclusive)

Right now, this is being sold online at premium prices. You can buy a similar model with an additional Winston Zedmore for a list price of $30 USD. I’ll value the exclusive at $20 USD, but this may be worth more.

Overlook Hotel Mug Coasters

These look cheap. I’m sure they sell for around $5 USD, but I personally wouldn’t pay that.

Rue Morgue Magazine

The cover price for this is $10 USD.

Bates Motel Mug (Exclusive)

This is an exclusive, but Amazon.com has a selection of Bates Motel mugs available for $15 USD each.

Box Review

Despite the quibble about receiving the same item in two blocks from the same company, it is really hard to quibble about the value of this box, particularly with all the exclusive items.

Rue Morgue is always a good read and I’d like to see more tie ins with boxes having a magazine in them each month. There are some excellent Sci-Fi magazines published in the UK (and elsewhere) which would fit right into the boxes.

As a fan of the gripping Bates Motel, I’m glad to see the exclusive mug, which will definitely get used.

The drinks coasters are cardboard and tacky, but perhaps that’s the intended impression? They will unfortunately end up stuck in a drawer somewhere until I have visitors I dislike (or who will see the funny side) come and visit.

The shot glasses are fun and the T-Shirt has good design spirit to it.

I’ve put a value of $66 USD on this box – much more than the $32.49 purchase cost. The real value may be higher, as some of the exclusives are already selling on for much more.

Overall, I really can’t fault the effort the effort that goes into Horror Block. Horror fans will love this box!
