Loot Crate Geek Box Review – March 2016

Published 15 April 2016·4 min read·8 min video

Loot Crate is still running. Current pricing is in the box directory.

The video loads only when you press play, so the page stays fast.

The standard of Loot Crate crate has been at a high point in recent boxes. This meant that I had great expectations for the March 2016 box, which came with the interesting theme of VS (or Versus).

A lot of the March 2016 boxes tied in with the Batman Vs Superman movie theme, but Loot Crate used a wider theme, so the box had a lot of potential.

The box arrived safely in the UK with a well-paced delivery. The box with the contents was slightly smaller than recent boxes from them. It’s always interesting how Loot Crate sizes the boxes so precisely around the contents.

Loot Crate is a reasonably priced subscription for UK residents. The standard price, including shipping to the UK, is $29.95 USD (£22 GBP) for a one-month subscription.

The usual magazine was included inside the box, giving information about the contents, which is always useful.

Box Contents

Star Trek Mirror Universe T-Shirt

This is a cool T-Shirt design from Star Trek, depicting Spock, one of the most popular characters and the always intriguing mirror universe.

The T-Shirt is on a cream background and reflects traditional boxing posters. The design works very well.

Unusually, this one isn’t an exclusive, but is a high quality design that I’m happy to own.

I value this at the T-Shirt standard of $10 USD.

Batman Vs Superman Mighty Wallet (Exclusive)

There have been a few Mighty Wallets in geek boxes recently. These are made of Tyvex, a paper like substance which is almost impossible to rip.

I do like these wallets, but they don’t have any capacity to store coins (only notes and cards), which prevents them from being of much use in daily life.

The price I’ve used to value these at before is $10 USD, so I’ll stick with the same valuation here.

Alien Vs Predator Vinyl Blind Box Figure (Exclusive)

This is a 4.5″ figure produced by Titan Vinyls. There were other figures from the Alien Nostromo collection, which is advertised on the box, in Nerd Block and Horror Block last year (although these were the 3″ versions).

The box contains one of two exclusive figures, either Xenomorph or Predator.

Based on comparable figures, I’ll value this at $10 USD.

Harley Quinn Comic (Exclusive)

Very unusually, this isn’t just an exclusive cover, but is an entirely exclusive comic, published by DC.

Based on this being inside Loot Crate, I’ve read that this will be the highest distribution issue of Harley Quinn ever.

It’s a quick fun read which also references several other DC heroes.

There’s no cover price with this one, but I’ll use a standard comic price of $4 USD (but this is selling for more on auction sites).

Marvel Reversible Beanie (Exclusive)

Loot Crate have really pushed up the quality of their clothing in recent months and that trend continues with this cool beanie.

Wear in one way out and its a red hat referencing Daredevil. Turn it inside out and you get a black hat referencing Punisher.

There are lots of Marvel beanies available on Amazon.com.

I’ll use what looks to be a standard price for these beanies of $15 USD.

Loot Crate Mini Magazine

This is a useful magazine with information about the products included in the box and some short articles.

No value to assign, but this is always good to have included.

Aliens Vs Predator Pin And Bonus Items

The box includes this interesting pin, taking the theme forward with Aliens Vs Predator.

There are also two bonus digital items.

First, a mobile game called Word Gush. This looks as though it’s free anyway, but the information states that subscribers will receive bonus content in April 2016.

Second, a free digital comic, which is Aliens Vs Predator: Three World War #1  (released in October 2015).

US based subscribers didn’t get the free comic, but instead received a downloadable movie (either Aliens or Predator). Looks like they got a slightly better deal.

These items are all good to receive, but I haven’t included any of them in the box value.

Box Review

There is excellent value inside this box at $49 USD, which is way above the cost price for the box.

I don’t always like the clothing items inside geek boxes, but both of the items included this time are winners, with the fun beanie and Star Trek T-Shirt.

Almost all of the items are exclusives as well, which really makes the box feel special – and a totally exclusive comic is a first for me.

Loot Crate continues to be near the top of the geek box world. They are really expanding with other box series right now as well and I look forward to seeing what’s next.
