Comic Block Geek Box Review – September 2015

Published 4 October 2015·2 min read·6 min video

Comic Block has since stopped running. This review is kept as a record of what the box was like; every edition we opened is on the Comic Block page.

The video loads only when you press play, so the page stays fast.

I decided to take a chance on another Comic Block, from the Nerd Block family. Even though the raw value of the comics hasn’t been that high, they’re always fun to unbox.

This is one subscription where the postage costs to the UK really push up the final price. The box itself is low priced, but including postage, this costs $26.49 USD (£18 GBP).

Shipping was fast, taking around a week, and the Comic Block packaging is always very presentable.

Box Contents

Saga T-Shirt

I like the design, but know nothing about this comic book character, which I’m told is in the Space Opera realm.

The value of this, to me, is the standard of $10 USD.

Green Lantern Light Up Ring

This is a fun item, but does look cheap.

There are lots of versions of the Green Lantern ring available on Amazon.com. I’ll value this at a midrange value of $5 USD.

Mad Max: Fury Road – Max Part 1 Comic (Exclusive Cover)

This is an extra bonus comic this month, presumably as it was also in the July 2015 Nerd Block.

It’s a good read, although I never did track down part 2 of this film prequel comic.

The cover price is $4.99 USD.

Deadpool vs Thanos #1 Comic

As so often happens, this is issue 1 of a series of 4. These are popular Marvel characters, but not ones that I’ve previously followed.

You can also access a bonus digital edition.

The cover price is $3.99 USD.

Mirror’s Edge Exordium #1 Comic

This is issue 1 of 6 of a series from Dark Horse Comics.

I don’t know much about the series or characters, which links to a game franchise, but the cover price is $3.99 USD.

Danger Girl: Renegade #1 Comic (Exclusive Cover)

This comes from IDW and is a Comic Block exclusive cover.

This is issue 1 in a four issue prequel series to the main Danger Girl storylines.

The cover price isn’t shown, but I believe that this is also $3.99 USD (which is pretty much the comic standard at present).

Box Review

Overall, pretty good.

The raw value is $32 USD, which, as usual, is not much over the cost price. People shipping within North America will get better value.

I would have liked to have seen more exclusive covers (I only really count Danger Girl here, with the other comic being a duplicate).

As a positive to collectors, all of the comics are bagged and on boards. Two of the comics need cutting open to access them, which isn’t ideal.

Comic Block continues to deliver an interesting collection of comics. I will be dipping in and out of this subscription, as I enjoy seeing what’s new in the comic world, even though I’m not an avid collector.

Box update

Comic Block has since stopped running, so the subscription link that originally sat here has been retired. You can still browse every Comic Block review on this site.
