Comic Block Geek Box Review – August 2016

Published 9 October 2016·3 min read·6 min video

Comic Block has since stopped running. This review is kept as a record of what the box was like; every edition we opened is on the Comic Block page.

The video loads only when you press play, so the page stays fast.

I’ve kept my subscription to Comic Block going ever since the box became supersized, mainly because I’ve grandfathered in to the previous pricing scheme.

It’s a good fun box, with lots of comic items, but the recent boxes have been more lackluster than they should be with such of wealth of items to choose from.

This review is for the August 2016 box, which arrived safely in the UK with the final part of the delivery coming through Royal Mail. The standard pricing for Comic Block, including shipping from Canada to the UK, is $33 USD (that’s around £26 GBP).

The box came with the normal information card, which is always useful. It also came with $10 of Shirt Punch credit, which is detailed on the information card as an item. Because of the difficulties of using this credit within the UK, I don’t consider this a real item or include this in the box value.

Box Contents

Guardians of the Galaxy T-Shirt (Exclusive)

A great colourful design and this has the comic book styling that I enjoy seeing on T-Shirts. The front depicts five of the main characters.

This is an also an official Marvel item.

I’ll value this at the T-Shirt standard of $10 USD.

Suicide Squad Baseball Cap (Exclusive)

This is an official DC Comics item and is also an exclusive.

As well as the logo on the front, this has a picture of the main characters on the underside of the rim.

There are various Suicide Squad baseball caps available on Amazon.com. They tend to sell for more than T-Shirts, so I’ll value this at $15 USD.

Harley Quinn Comic Issue #1

This comic is part of the DC Universe Rebirth and is the first in a new series.

It’s not a comic that has particularly grabbed me, but I know this is a character that other people enjoy.

The cover price for this is $2.99 USD.

Harley Quinn Comic Issue #2

The second in the new Harley Quinn series is also included in the box.

Although it’s good to have more than one of a run, this is also something of a disappointment as the comic didn’t grab me.

This is also valued at $2.99 USD.

Suicide Squad Issue #1 (Exclusive Cover)

This the second Suicide Squad item of the month, as well as, unusually, a third comic.

The one is a fun enough read, thankfully and the series has potential.

This has the Comic Block logo on the front and also has the $2.99 USD cover price.

Although the other two comics came in decent reusable bags, this one bucked the trend and came in a throwaway bag.

Box Review

A Comic Block of interest, but rather lacking in variety this time, with several repeated franchises included.

There is $34 USD of value to be found here, which is right on the cost price. Most of this comes from the baseball cap.

I do commend having the original and interesting clothing items included, but the box does feel lighter and more limited than others.

Comic Block is fun. The contents vary, but if this selection of items look like it’s for you, then go for it.

Box update
