Lootchest is a monthly geek subscription box based in Germany, but available for delivery overseas.
There is a small English language market for this box and so the website contains English language instructions for ordering, the box is shipped to the UK has English language printing and the mini information magazine has a shorter English language section with product details (alongside the native German).
A monthly subscription costs 32.93 euros, approximately £25 GBP or $36 USD, which includes the premium for shipping to the UK. Discounts are available if you subscribe for more than one month at a time. You can also upgrade to a premium box with an additional item.
The January box arrived in the UK safely, with a shipping notification and only taking a few days once leaving Germany. The UK leg of shipping was completed by Royal Mail.
The boxes are not themed, but the items are varied around the usual geek interest topics.
Box Contents
Doctor Who 10th Doctor Titan Vinyl Figure
I am a Doctor Who fan, so always happy to receive Doctor Who items, but unfortunately this Titan Vinyl is a duplicate for me, as I already received it in the July 2015 Nerd Block.
In Nerd Block, this was listed as an exclusive, but there’s no such listing for Lootchest (where it clearly isn’t an exclusive).
This is the 10th Doctor in a blue suit with brown stripes. I believe that there is another Nerd Block version also available with a brown suite with blue stripes (otherwise very similar), but that’s less common.
There is also the main 10th Doctor Titan Vinyl available on Amazon.com, with a different outfit and no glasses.
The exclusive version is widely available for resale, I value it at $15 USD.
Game Of Thrones Drinks Coasters
These are decent coasters and a recent release. They reflect four logos and tag lines featured in the popular TV series.
There are lots of Game Of Thrones coasters available on Amazon.com.
I’ll place a mid-valuation on them on $8 USD.
Terminator 2 Skynet Card Holder
This is another duplicate item for me. It was in the July 2015 My Geek Box.
The original one has never been used and this one likely never will be either.
As this is officially branded, I’ll use a value of $5 USD.
Minecraft Sticker
A light item that will never be used. The Minecraft Sticker is available to buy at Amazon.com.
The price there to buy is around $4 USD, which seems excessive (although the list price is over double that).
Star Wars The Force Awakens Poster
This is a cool looking poster which unwraps to show the logo for the latest movie.
I haven’t taken this out of the plastic and unrolled it, as this is probably going to be a present for a friend of mine.
The standard selling price is around $5 USD.
Double Dip Sweets
This is a fun item, as these sweets are manufactured in the UK and widely available here.
This looks identical, but the text is translated into German.
Double Dip is a candy stick with two pouches of sherbet (orange and cherry flavours). You use the stick to eat the sherbet.
I haven’t had a Double Dip for a few years, so this will be a fun nostalgic treat.
For ease of calculation, I’ll value this at a round $1 USD.

Box Review
A break-even box. I make that $38 USD of value, which is very close to the shipped price. The GBP has taken a hit against other currencies recently, so this makes the box seem more expensive than it used to be.
Unusual not to have a T-Shirt in the box this month, as Lootchest usually finds an interesting one, although I do have more T-Shirts from geek boxes than I could ever wear.
On a plus side, there were also no large items printed in German (I can forgive the candy, as it’s both edible and rather a novelty to have this printed with a German label).
The biggest disappointment was the duplicate Doctor Who Titan Vinyl. That’s not the first time that a Nerd Block exclusive has ended up in Lootchest a few months later, so there’s obviously an agreement in place.
The other duplicate item, I’ll assume was a coincidence.
Lootchest is a great box to dip into. I think that I have one month left on my current 6 month subscription. As there are so many boxes out there, it’s unlikely that I’ll renew at this point, but I will keep following how this company progresses with geek interest.
