Loot Anime has been around for a few months as part of the expanded Loot Crate family, but this is my first review of the box aimed at anime and manga fans.
One of the main reasons for this being my first review is that I’m simply not too knowledgeable about the anime world and I would struggle to pick out certain popular TV series which fans would know straight away. But I do find a lot of the items cool.
I was also able to take advantage of a limited discount offer to check out the July 2016 box, which was themed Squadron. A great incentive to add a new box review to the site.
The standard monthly price for Loot Anime, including shipping to the UK, is $35 USD (£27 GBP). That’s slightly more than the standard Loot Crate, no doubt reflecting the more niche audience that this box is aimed at. It’s also possible to get a discounted subscription to Crunchyroll Premium, a Netflix style service for anime videos, for as long as you hold a Loot Anime subscription.
The box arrived safely in the UK, in black packaging very similar to the other Loot Crate lines. This was a heavy box, which I always think is a good sign.
One thing I liked about the box is that it contained a large folded poster. The back of the poster provided details of the items inside the box.
Box Contents
GATE T-Shirt (Exclusive)
Even though I know nothing about this anime, which is about a gate appearing in Tokyo from which monsters appear, I love the design.
The dragon reminds me of the old Dungeons and Dragons box and this works perfectly on the T-Shirt.
This one will certainly get plenty of wear. I’ll value this at the T-Shirt standard of $10 USD.
Anti-Magic Academy Scarf (Exclusive)
This may well be the first cosplay item I’ve ever owned. This is a replica of the scarf used by Mari Nikaido in Anti-Magic Academy, although I believe it’s intended more for the look than warmth.
Just as well, as it’s unusual to receive scarves in summer.
This is an oddly shaped scarf as well, although I’m sure fans will love it.
There’s very little to compare this against for value, so I’ll use what tends to be a very common price point for items like this of $10 USD.
GATE Multi-Tool (Exclusive)
Another item related to GATE, although it’s not clear to me exactly how, this is a useful multi-tool.
The functionality includes a bottle opener, paracord, hex tool and PVC charm.
The charm has the GATE logo on, which isn’t particularly functional and I guess is the link to the franchise. The rest of the tool is rather useful.
There are similar multi-tool items available on Amazon.com. Looking at the ones most like this, a sensible comparative value is $8 USD.
Mobile Suit Gundam Assault Kingdom Master Gundam Figure
This is one of the longest franchise titles I’ve come across for a while, with Mobile Suit Gundam being an anime version of the long-standing GUNDAM franchise.
This figure is Master Gundam, which is item 32 in the series. The figure is about 4″ tall after some assembly.
You can see many of the figures in the Mobile Suit Gundam series on Amazon.com.
Prices for these are generally around the $15 USD mark for the common figures, which is the value that I’ll use here.
Arpeggio Of Blue Steel Manga Volume 1 (Exclusive Cover)
I always enjoy receiving books in boxes. I haven’t read much manga, but I enjoy comics and this first volume looks like a good read.
It tells the tale of powerful vessels that appeared and took over the seas, preventing people from traveling over water. An interesting premise and there are quite a few more volumes available now.
This book was originally published in 2014, although the Loot Anime version has an exclusive cover (and features the Loot Crate logo).
You can see Arpeggio Of Blue Steel Volume 1 on Amazon.com, although that version comes with the regular cover. The selling price there is $12 USD.
Looks like a good addition to the box.
Squadron Phone Charm (Exclusive)
I believe that all of the Loot Anime boxes have one of these in to denote the theme and month, in a similar way to other boxes have badges.
I can’t imagine using this as a phone charm, but this could equally well work on a chain.
I won’t assign a value here, but it’s a cool item to have.
Loot Anime Poster
The box also contains this cool poster, which doubles up to provide information on the items on the back.
I don’t think that this is an exclusive design. I’m not certain what franchise this is from either, but this advertises Crunchyroll, so I presume that this is from one of the series you can view on that site.
No value to assign here, but this is a good way to use up the Loot Anime box space.

Box Review
This is a box full of decent value. I get $55 USD of value, which is pleasantly above the cost price.
Even without being a particular anime enthusiast, I can appreciate the value behind these items. There’s a lot of interest here as well, including a good T-Shirt, an interesting book, a useful multi-tool and more.
I’d happily pick up Loot Anime again. With almost all exclusive items and an interesting range, there’s a lot to value here.
