Kewel Boxes has quickly established itself as an up-and-coming player on the UK geek mystery box market.

For their third box, Kewel Boxes went with the theme of London Calling, allowing them to base contents around all the charm of England’s capital city.

The box arrived with me safely, with delivery conveniently coming through Royal Mail. The subscription price is at the upper end of UK box pricing at £19.98 GBP ($28 USD), including UK delivery, but still much cheaper than US boxes are going for with the current exchange rates.

An excellent feature about Kewel Boxes is that there is no automatic subscription. Each month, you are sent the details of the next mystery box and you get the choice whether to subscribe or not.

Upon arrival, the box seemed rather light, but that turned out to be reflected in the choice of contents.

The box came with an information sheet, which is always handy and appreciated.

Box Contents

Shaun from Shaun Of The Dead Funko POP! Vinyl

The first of two POP!s included this month. This comes from the POP! Movies collection.

An iconic character from a cult film, you can see the Shaun Of The Dead Funko POP! Vinyl on Amazon.com.

The standard price is $15 USD.

Magenta from The Rocky Horror Picture Show Funko POP! Vinyl

And, here’s the second of the POP!s. Another cult film (and originally a cult stage musical).

Based on the description, I presume that this was one of several possible POP!s from The Rocky Horror Picture Show that could have been received. Magenta isn’t the most iconic of the show characters, but she did play a key role throughout.

I am rather struggling to figure out the London link though, as the show was set in Texas. My best guess is that it was filmed near London. But, that doesn’t detract from the great POP!

You can see the Magenta Funko POP! Vinyl on Amazon.com. This is a recent release and the selling price is around $10 USD.

Shaun Of The Dead Wall Plaque

The second Shaun Of The Dead item in the box, this would be a fun plaque to display, perhaps in the smallest room of the house.

It’s a small plaque in thin metal, although it’s not quite prepared for hanging, so would work best in a frame.

This is a well-selected item which is hard to find online. I’ll use $5 USD as my best guesstimate of a sensible price.

An American Werewolf In London Fridge Magnet

This is bookmark shaped and enclosed in hard plastic, showing the movie poster. Rather thicker than most magnets.

You can see the An American Werewolf In London Fridge Magnet on Amazon.com.

Because of how this is presented, the design isn’t as sharp as it could be. It’s not a film that really did anything for me, so not a display piece, but a good varied choice for the box.

I’ll use a charitable value of $5 USD.

Sherlock Key Ring

This is a rubber key ring with a silhouette of Sherlock, based around the popular BBC TV series.

There are a selection of Sherlock key rings available on Amazon.com.

I do tend to find the overuse of key rings in geek mystery boxes to be rather a cop out, but Sherlock does fit in closely with the London Calling theme.

Based on the UK pricing of this item, I’ll value it at $5 USD.

Sweets

It’s always pleasing to find sweets in the box. These included a mini Refreshers chew and a packet of Millions chewable candy.

Both of these were very tasty!

As a bonus item of two small sweets I can’t really assign a value, but these were gratefully appreciated.

Box Review

A very different style of box to the previous month. Less innovative and varied, but the contents were all well-chosen.

I make that $40 USD of value, which is well above the cost price (particularly as there are usually small customer discounts available).

The two great POP!s were the highlight and the other items well chosen. I think that this is the first Rocky Horror Show related item I’ve ever received in a geek subscription box, which is surprising considering how popular the film is with geek audiences.

I’m happy to recommend Kewel Boxes and I feel that they are ready succeed with any theme they turn their hand to.
