Cosmic Toy Box is an interesting UK mystery box, in that it is not new to the market, but also does not seem to be all that well-known (it’s hard to find existing reviews and unboxing videos for this company).
I have recently checked out their regular box (released every two months) which I found to be of a high standard.
Cosmic Toy Box also periodically release special limited edition boxes, which, unlike their regular box, carry a particular theme.
This is a review of their Marvel box.
The standard price for Cosmic Toy box, including UK delivery, is £22 GBP ($31 USD). The price for the Marvel box was the same, although I slightly saved on postage through a courier company by having this shipped with other items.
The box arrived in simple recycled packaging, with a logo stuck on two of the sides. This was a good-sized box with plenty of weight associated with it – always a promising sign.
There was no information card included, but all of the items clearly matched the Marvel theme.
Box Contents
Ultimate Spider-Man Lego – Carnage’s SHIELD Sky Attack
Lego items are always popular to receive in geek mystery boxes and this is no exception.
This 97 piece set comes with the vehicle and three different characters, including the Miles Morales version of Spider-man (this is a 2015 release – but I’m not sure how this fits into the many different TV and comic book universes).
You can buy the Carnage’s SHIELD Sky Attack on Amazon.com. The typical value is a very reasonable $12 USD.
Amazing Spider-Man Metal Bookmark
This is a large bookmark, made of metal, and depicting the ever-popular web slinger.
Even though most of my reading is now electronic, I always enjoy receiving bookmarks and this one is both stylish and different.
This is a slightly older release (dated 2006), but that doesn’t really matter for an item of this type.
Based on the UK selling price, I’ll value this at $6 USD.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Groot Key Ring
This is a rubber feel key ring. Okay as key rings go, but very much filler and it will just end up in a drawer somewhere.
As this is an official item, I’ll value it at $5 USD.
Build Your Own Iron Man
This is a collection of six cards made available to retailers in late 2015, either as incentives for sales, or for separate purchase. It is convenient to have these collected together and Cosmic Toy Box have also helped out by providing the instructions.
Put together, they form a cool model of Iron Man.
These aren’t easy to get hold of as a set, as they are clearly collectible, especially in their untouched state. Based on eBay pricing, I’ll value this at $5 USD.
Avengers Age Of Ultron Bobblehead Blind Box
These blind boxes (here called Mystery Minis and manufactured by Funko) are always a lot of fun to open, as everyone gets something different.
This one is even more exciting as it’s a bobble-head and a whole selection of 12 of Marvel’s most popular characters are available.
You can see the Avengers Age Of Ultron Mystery Minis on Amazon.com. The selling price for each of these is $6 USD per box.
Contest Of Champions Poster
This is a large poster, relating to the game, which was released by Marvel in 2015. The size is 24″ by 36″ with a catchy design, although it has arrived folded.
From what I can research, this was available as a promotional poster but also put on limited sale.
I’ll value this at $5 USD based on the pricing from people looking to buy this poster.
Essential Marvel Saga Volume 1 Trade Paperback
I have quite a few of the Essential Marvel books, but not this one. These are collections of comics, presented in black and white on low stock paper.
This edition collects The Marvel Saga issues 1 to 12, so as you imagine it’s a substantial volume, running 440 pages.
The 1980s comics collected tell the story of the origins of Marvel heroes and villains. Of course, these origins have been changed and rewritten many times since, but as I always enjoy the old versions, I’m sure that I’ll enjoy this one.
Essential Marvel Saga Volume 1 is available on Amazon.com. The cover price is $16.99 USD, although I’m sure that this can be acquired more cheaply.
I’m always glad to receive books in geek subscription boxes and I will definitely be reading this one.

Box Review
A very good value box. I make this $56 USD of value, which is nearly double the cost price.
I’m particularly glad to have the book (probably not worth quite the cover price, but it will provide plenty of reading) and the only item that I feel is a total loss is the key ring.
There are a couple of promotional items, but as these are interesting, hard to get hold of and also still have collectible value, this works well.
And, there’s no T-Shirt, which works out absolutely fine with me.
I wish that all geek boxes could be this well thought out and this fun! I will certainly watch out for more limited edition boxes from Cosmic Toy Box in the future.
