Zavvi ZBox Geek Box Review – October 2015

Published 15 October 2015·3 min read·7 min video

Zavvi ZBox has since stopped running. This review is kept as a record of what the box was like; every edition we opened is on the Zavvi ZBox page.

The video loads only when you press play, so the page stays fast.

The Zavvi ZBox is a UK distributed geek box that comes from a major retailer. Unusually, it’s available to buy on a one-off basis, instead of signing up for a subscription.

This box, themed “Heroes and Villains” was originally scheduled for release in September 2015 and is dated as such on the ZBox mini magazine. However, it was eventually shipped early October 2015, and it looks as though Zavvi are now referring to this as the October box, which their next release planned for November.

In many ways, a release pattern early in the month might work out well, since most boxes ship at the middle or end of the month.

Standard shipping within the UK is £19.99 GBP ($30 USD). Shipping internationally carries a small premium. This particular box also came with a free Lucky Dip ZBox, making it even better value.

This actually arrived with me before the rescheduled release date, which is a positive. A downside is that this ships through a courier rather than Royal Mail, which can make deliveries a pain, although thankfully a neighbour signed for this as I was working.

Box Contents

Captain America Munny Figure

Like other Munny figures, you can draw on this. It also comes with stickers to place on Captain America.

Generally, the figures in these series sell for around $10 USD. This one seems more collectible than some of the others, you can buy the Captain America Munny on Amazon.com here.

X Men Wristband

These are a fun flouresecent design, although not one I would ever wear.

You can buy the X Men Wristband for $10 USD on Amazon.com.

The Joker Vinyl Figure (Exclusive)

This is a ZBox exclusive vinyl figure. Small, but collectible.

I’m going to estimate the value at a standard vinyl figure price of $10 USD.

Transformers Heat Change Mug (Exclusive)

This is a fun mug, which comes boxed. The moustache appears on the mug when it gets hot.

This style of mug typically sells for around $8 USD.

Villains In A Can Air Horn

This is battery powered. I haven’t tried it yet to test the volume.

These vary a lot in price. I’m going to estimate this at $6 USD.

Pixy Stix

I haven’t tasted this yet, but I understand that it’s a sweet and sour candy, which comes in powdered form.

The value of this is only a few pence, but it’s always nice to have something edible in the geek boxes.

ZBox Mini Magazine

There’s not much to the magazine, but it does contain a description of the box contents.

Useful to have, but I’m not going to place a value on it. I do like the cover art, which is also replicated inside the box.

Box Review

A good selection, all related to the Heroes and Villains theme. All the major items have some value to them.

The main item has to be the exclusive figure of The Joker. You can never have too many mugs either and this is a cool one.

My value estimate for this box is $44 USD, which is above the cost price. Really, there was much more value here with the Lucky Dip ZBox included as well.

The Zavvi ZBox is a solid product. This is one where I do recommend checking out the themes and grabbing a box when this appeals to you.

Box update
