Since starting to operate under The Hut Group banner, the style of My Geek Box has changed a lot. There have been some errors with the subscription software and the customer service and these continue to haunt me as a transferred customer. I’d imagine that new customers don’t have these issues.
Putting these to one side, My Geek Box continues to be an established box shipped from within the UK. This month, the theme was wide open, listed as Movies and Television.
I’m pleased to say that this month’s box arrived smoothly, being delivered through Royal Mail. I did receive an email notifying me of delivery on the day, but that was rather late – notification at least a day before would be useful.
The box always arrives well-packaged, with an outer sleeve and a standard branded box inside. There is no information card provided, which is a limitation.
Subscriptions within the UK, paid on a monthly basis, cost £17.99 GBP ($27 USD). That’s around the average price for these type of boxes and that price includes shipping.

Jaws 19 T-Shirt
This is a fun T-Shirt, inspired by one of the films playing during Back To The Future Part 2.
It’s not an official release and I’m sure it’s available elsewhere (although the versions I can find are printed on grey T-Shirt stock instead of white).
I’ll value this at the standard T-Shirt price point of $10 USD.
Hoth Ski Gear Scarf
My second scarf in a geek subscription box recently. Very happy to be receiving these, particularly with the spate of cold weather that the UK is going through.
This is a simple black scarf made of 100% polyester, which contains a Hoth Ski Gear logo. This references the ice planet of Hoth, as featured in Star Wars but isn’t an official item.
I’m not much of a Star Wars universe fan, but I suppose that all the geek mystery boxes being released now have to reference Star Wars in some form.
This may be an exclusive, or at least hard to obtain, as I can’t find this online anywhere. I’m going to use the same value that I usually reserve for T-Shirts, of $10 USD.
James Bond Gadgets DVD
This is a 42 minute documentary from 2001, which is an age in the gadget world, so I imagine that this fairly dated.
It was originally aired on the History channel.
I can’t find this exact version online, only a version of James Bond Gadgets on Amazon.com that also has an additional show about Ian Fleming.
This version only contains a single episode comes in a cardboard sleeve, so I imagine that it’s a special pressing or a promotional release.
I’ll value this at $5 USD, although you can buy the version with both episodes for not much more than that.
Ted 2 Key Ring
This is a rubber key ring from a film that was released a few months ago. I haven’t seen this, although I’ll probably watch it on a plane or something soon.
The Ted 2 Thunder Buddy Key Ring is available on Amazon.com. I’m going to use a price point at which it’s available from several UK stores, which is $5 USD.
James Bond 007 VARGR #1 Comic (Exclusive Cover)
This is the first in a six issue mini series and has the My Geek Box logo in the bottom left hand corner, so is presumably an exclusive.
This is published by Dynamite and is the first of a 6 issue limited series. Looks like there are 24 different variant covers to collect.
Interestingly, this is reported to be the first James Bond comic since 1996. This is a brand new story, officially authorised by the Ian Fleming family. The artwork used for the characters does not relate to any of the actors who have played them in the movies.
There’s no cover price here, but the standard version costs $3.99 USD, so that’s what I’ll go with.
This looks like a fun series and I’m certainly going to read this one properly.

Box Review
This month’s My Geek Box has a value of $34 USD. That’s actually more than I expected when I first unpacked the contents.
Only having five items as always a disappointment, although thankfully there are no give away items like stickers. There’s also no tie in to television, unless you count the DVD with an old episode of a TV programme.
The theme should probably just have been movies, or maybe even just James Bond.
This is more useful than other boxes, with the inclusion of the scarf. It’s great to have a comic that I wouldn’t otherwise have seen as well, particularly with the exclusive cover.
The key ring comes across as rather a leftover item and the DVD, although it interests me and will be watched, could have had both the episodes on that are included in the commercial version.
When My Geek Box is on form, the contents are very good. This month was rather lacklustre, but let’s see what the future brings for this UK mystery box.
