Comic Block relaunched last month with an excellent box, packed full of interesting comic items, but rather light on comics themselves.

April 2016 marked the second of the supersized Comic Blocks, with more room for contents than the previous format. This box arrived smoothly in the UK a few days after being released from Canada. The box did show slight transit damage.

The standard pricing for the supersized box, including shipping from Canada to the UK, is $33 USD (around £24 GBP). I have a slight discount as I still pay the previous rates and, of course, there are discounts available for subscriptions of more than one month at a time.

The boxes aren’t themed, although there are often spoilers provided, which I don’t tend to pay much attention to. The boxes do contain information cards, which are always useful.

Box Contents

Captain America T-Shirt (Exclusive)

This is a brilliant T-Shirt, with a Captain America comic strip shown in the background and the red, white and blue logo at the front.

This is an official Marvel item, as well as a Shirt Punch exclusive, so it also carries the Marvel logo.

The front shows Nerd Block (and the web url) in small text under the image, which is the first time I’ve noticed this advertising included on the shirt front.

One of my favourite T-shirt designs for a while. I’ll value this at the T-Shirt standard of $10 USD.

Captain America Funko POP! Vinyl

This comes from the Captain America Civil War series and it’s POP! Marvel item #125.

This goes very well with the Iron Man POP! from the same series that I received in the April 2016 Infinity Crates.

According to the information card, you could also have received the Iron Man POP! or a Black Panther POP! in the Comic Block.

You can see the Captain America Civil War Funko POP! Vinyl on Amazon.com.

Based on the selling price, I’ll value this at $9 USD.

Reaction Figures: The Flash Reverse Flash Action Figure

This is a small figure released by Funko as part of their ReAction figure range.

My first thought was that this would be based on the 1990 TV series (as this is a retro styled line), but I believe now that this is based on the current popular TV series (which I do watch and enjoy).

Unfortunately, my figure arrived with the plastic detached from the figure card, so the figure was loose in the box.

You can see the Reaction Figures Reverse Flash on Amazon.com.

I’ll value this as if it was received in original condition, at the standard selling price of $9 USD.

Aliens: Defiance #1 Comic (Exclusive Cover)

This one looks readable. It’s the first in a 12 issue series published by Dark Horse Comics.

It’s billed as an exclusive on the information card, but as an issue with a very similar description is listed elsewhere, I presume that this really means an exclusive cover.

Unfortunately, the comic comes in a rip-off and discard style bag, which isn’t much use.

There’s no value listed on the cover for this, so I’ll use the price of the standard edition, which is $3.99 USD.

Black Panther Comic #1

This is another comic launch (or relaunch) in the all-new all-different Marvel universe.

I’ve never been much of a Black Panther follower, but this one looks worth a read and is an easy dipping in point.

This also comes nicely bagged and boarded, which is always appreciated.

The cover price is $4.99 USD.

Box Review

Some nice items, but this isn’t an outright winner like last time.

I make this $37 USD of value, which is only just above the cost price.

Compared with last month’s Comic Block however, this is lacking in items a lot. There is also the issue of the damaged item.

On the positive side, both of the comics included are decent and aren’t just reprints of old lines designed to sell a graphic novel (as happened with two of the three comics last month).

I really like both the T-Shirt and the Funko POP! Vinyl as well. Decent choices and designs.

Comic Block now has the potential to be an excellent subscription. I’ll continue to watch to see what happens.
