My Geek Box is one of the most advertised of the UK based geek subscription boxes. Following its take over last year, this is part of the same parent company as the Zavvi ZBox and the style of the boxes is often similar.
Like many subscribers after the takeover, I had difficulty with incorrect payments being taken from my account and promised refunds that never happened. Thanks to my credit card company, I believe that the issue is now finally resolved, but the My Geek Box customer service and canned responses leaves something to be desired.
My Geek Box now claim that their subscription issues have been sorted, but for the time being, this is the final box that I’m expecting to receive on my subscription.
The February 2016 box came with the theme Arcade and the promise of two T-Shirts instead of one. Unfortunately, the shipping went downhill, going through one of the less reliable UK courier firms instead of the Royal Mail delivery that’s been used in recent months. Thankfully, the box arrived without incident.
The subscription price within the UK, paid on a monthly basis, is £17.99 GBP ($26 USD). There are discounts available for longer-term subscriptions.
The My Geek Box deliveries do not come with information cards, which is always a shortcoming.

Tron T-Shirt
This is a simple but strong design, printed on traditional black T-Shirt stock.
The print references the film Tron, which was inspired by early arcade games.
This may be an exclusive. Without the information card, it’s not clear.
I value this T-Shirt at $10 USD.
Pac-Man T-Shirt
I’m not a fan of white T-Shirts in general, as they look cheap.
This is a very simple design in one colour, referencing Pac-Man.
This one won’t get much wear. I’ll stick with the standard T-Shirt valuation point of $10 USD.
Space Invaders Money Box
This exact same money box came in the December 2015 Arcade Block, where it was billed as an exclusive.
I wasn’t impressed with it there, as many UK coins, such as the £1 and £2 coin, just won’t fit through the slot at the top.
That was almost forgivable for a US shipment where coin sizes are different, but is a horrible mistake to make from a UK company.
For consistency, I’ll stick with the valuation I gave as part of Arcade Block, at $10 USD. Of course, since this is no longer an exclusive, the valuation should be deflated somewhat.
Mortal Kombat X Subzero Plush
This is easily my favourite item in the box this time, from a memorable arcade and video game franchise.
This is well made with a striking design and I like the detail on the costume.

Street Fighter Ken Pixel Bricks
These little models with miniature bricks are quite fun. Ken comes with 188 pieces and builds into a 3″ tall model.
I have fond memories of playing Street Fighter in my younger days. This type of item will never be a favourite of mine, but it’s a suitable addition for the box.

Box Review
Plenty of value in this My Geek Box. I make this $51 USD of value, which is almost double the cost price.
To me though, the overall value of this box seems less than the individual items suggest. I think it’s because the T-Shirts seem much cheaper than those found in other boxes, and putting two T-Shirts in a box like this is rather a cop out. The Space Invaders money box also doesn’t really hold the stated value to me.
It is a limiting factor when the main item in a box is a plush, which although well made, isn’t exclusive or hard to get hold of.
I do feel that My Geek Box has to start including information cards and product details, as well as thinking seriously about delivery methods and customer service.
I’m not anticipating reviewing My Geek Box next month, but with the way things have gone with their subscriptions in the past, who knows?
There is the potential for My Geek Box to be very good. I hope that they make it.
