Zavvi provided this ZBox geek box free of charge for review purposes. This does not affect the editorial content of the review.

The July 2016 Zavvi ZBox arrived around the middle of the month, although the release dates seem to vary a bit. This is a popular UK based box, supported by a large online retailer and produced at a much larger scale than other UK boxes.

The July 2016 box had the theme Legends, a very open theme with a lot of opportunities available. This was a good weighty box and came in the Zavvi cardboard style packaging, which I’m sure is good from an environmental point of view.

For a subscription paid on a rolling monthly basis, the standard Zavvi ZBox price is £19.99 GBP ($26 USD). That’s the price I’m using to assess the value of the box.

The box also came with the usual mini magazine. As well as some short articles, this contains details of the items, which is always useful when unboxing, looking through the items and compiling the review.

Box Contents

Zelda T-Shirt (Exclusive)

I like the melding of the green and yellow in this T-Shirt.

The only disappointment is that it’s printed on white stock. The mini magazine has a version printed on black stock, where the design really stands out.

This is a good fantasy design which works even if you’re not a fan of Zelda.

I’ll assign a value to this of the T-Shirt standard ($10 USD).

The Flash Figure

This is a small, but cool, figure of The Flash, manufactured in 2008 by London firm Eaglemoss Publications.

It’s a 10cm tall resin figure, so has a decent weight to it. It looks as though this may have been since reissued with different packaging and a collectors booklet. You can see the reissued version of The Flash figure on Amazon.com here.

As this is a simpler version, I’ll value this slightly below the reissued version, at $10 USD.

Mario Kart Wii Luigi Pull Back Racers

This is a traditional children’s style car. Pull the car back until it makes a click and then this will speed forward across the floor.

The draw here of course is that this is a Mario Kart character. I got Luigi. These would be fun to race with a few cars from the series.

As with many items in the box, there were several different Mario Kart characters that could have been included here.

You can see a similar Mario Kart Wii Luigi Pull Back Racer on Amazon.com, although the packaging is different. The typical value for this item is $8 USD.

Zelda Shield Mug

This is a big mug, made by Paladone, with edged sides to give it a unique look.

Not the most practical to drink from, but certainly distinctive.

You can see the Zelda Shield Mug on Amazon.com.

This is a UK manufactured mug and so buying from the US carries a premium. I’ll use a more standard value based on UK pricing of $16 USD.

Arrow Vengeance Book

I enjoy the Arrow TV series and always appreciate a book in the box, so it’s great to have this paperback.

This is also a recent 2016 release. It’s a long book, which novelises and extends upon the back story from season 2, mostly from the perspective of the villains. Looking forward to giving this one a read.

You can get Arrow Vengeance on Amazon.com. The sale point valuation here is $6 USD.

Box Review

A varied and interesting box with several unique items.

The best items for me are the Arrow book and The Flash figure (both TV stories I enjoy, although The Flash predates the most recent TV series). There are other fun items too.

I get $50 USD of value, which is almost double the box cost price.

The Zavvi ZBox positions itself right at the top of the UK boxes. Although the contents can vary, when the boxes are of this standard, this one is an easy recommendation.
