Nerd Block Geek Box Review – April 2015

Nerd Block is one of the biggest geek subscription boxes in the world, shipping from Canada each month.

The theme for April 2015 was “Growing Up 80s”, a fine period for anyone into retro TV and other products.

Delivery to the UK took about 10 days for this one. This was slightly longer than normal, but the box arrived having been opened by UK Customs, checked and then resealed. As you will be able to see from the unboxing video, everything was respectfully inspected and kept in good order.

The standard price for the box, as a monthly subscription to the UK, was $32.49 USD, which is about £22 GBP. That’s on a monthly subscription basis. The Nerd Block boxes always contain one or more exclusive items, as well as an information card.

Box Review

Everything is great, apart from the collectible cards, which will never get played, but I presume Nerd Block still have a massive amount of these to get rid of.

The box does feel slightly short on items, with only four real items, but those four are decent. Another item would have really increased the perception of value here.

The Kevin Smith book is going to be interesting, as I’m sure Kevin Smith has a great story to tell about his career, and I understand this has an entrepreneurial lean to it. It’s not one that I’d have picked up, as I find swearing on a book cover completely unnecessary, but it will get read. I presume that this is a reprint for Nerd Block.

I like the Pac-Man mug. This is a UK design and the funny thing is I picked up exactly this mug for a friend last Christmas. Now I have my own. These are boxed, so also make a great gift item.

The T-Shirt is sweet. Back To The Future is a film I have strong memories of. Nerd Block always produce great colourful T-Shirts and I prefer the subtler designs like this one.

And the Ecto-1 4.5″ vinyl car from Ghostbusters is a special item. Exclusives are the way forward with these boxes as they increase the value so much and this one just looks the part.

I understand that there’s going to be another exclusive Ghostbusters vinyl in Horror Block this month, so they’re really taking advantage of the 30th Anniversary (not that I blame them). Hope it’s a Slimer.

Overall, this is the best Retro styled box I’ve come across. Nerd Block have really gone above and beyond to provide a top curated collection of items here.

Nerd Block comes highly recommended for the excellent contents and, as always, is commended for the fast shipping to the UK.
