I first reviewed Lootchest earlier this year and was impressed.
Lootchest is a Germany based geek subscription box, although it is possible to order for delivery outside Germany. As an international box, they can have access to items of nerd interest that are not easily available through other boxes.
The subscription cost is at the upper end of the scale for this type of box. A standard month-by-month subscription sent to the UK is 32.93 euros, approximately £24 GBP or $37 USD. Discounts are available for longer subscriptions and, of course, shipping within Germany is cheaper. A premium box with an additional item is also available.
I don’t recall receiving shipping notification for this box. The latter part of the delivery within the UK was through Parcelforce and left with a neighbour.
Lootchest have changed their packaging since the last box I ordered. The new one appears sturdier and is printed in the English language. It may be that they use a separate box for domestic and international shipping.
The box was pleasantly heavy, which was a good sign. The box did contain a small magazine with information about the items. Most of this is in German, but shorter English language translations were also included. As far as I can tell, this box was not themed.
Box Contents
Raptor Trainer T-Shirt
I haven’t yet seen Jurassic World, but I understand that this T-Shirt is related to the film in some form.
There are a lot of T-Shirts referencing Raptor Trainer, so I assume that this is an official item, rather than an exclusive.
I do like the grey design and colour scheme.
I’ll value this at the T-Shirt standard of $10 USD.
Raubtierbrause Cola Energy Drink
I’ll save this one for when I need a boost. This appears to be a German brand.
For pricing, $1 USD is about standard for an energy drink.
The box also contained a coupon for repeat energy drink orders, although I haven’t investigated further and I expect that shipping would be prohibitive.
Aperture Laboratories Scarf
I really like this design, which is double sided (white or blank background with the printed text).
This seems to relate to the Portal game series, although it’s not a franchise that I’ve had much experience of.
This is a pleasantly expensive item. The Aperture Laboratories scarf sells for $18 USD on Amazon.com.
Doctor Who Print
This is quite a surprise to receive, as I got exactly the same print in the June 2015 Nerd Block. There, it was billed as an exclusive.
This is well-printed on thin card.
I’ll stick with the same value as before, which is $2 USD.
Lootchest Mini Magazine And Stickers
The first part of this is a thin magazine with short articles and details of the items in the box. Most of this is in German.
There are also two stickers included.
I won’t value these, but they do improve the box as a whole. The information in the magazine is always useful.
Spider-man Comic
This is a German language Spider-man reprint, on high quality paper. This is the first issue of a series from August 2013, which I believe reprints The Superior Spider-man Issues 1 and 2.
This also contains a large pull out poster and several short articles.
There are similar comic reprints to this available in the UK, although they are, of course, presented in English.
As a UK reader, this is an interesting one to keep in the collection. I do remember having some French language comics when I was learning French earlier in my life.
According to the information card, there were a host of different first edition comics that could have been included here.
The cover price is 4.99 euros, which I will translate roughly to $6 USD.

Box Review
This is a well put together box. I make this a value of $39 USD.
I particularly like the scarf. As well as looking the part, this is a heavy item which contributed to the overall box weight and will be useful during the cold UK winter.
The T-Shirt is good too and the comic interesting, although I expect that getting German language publications each month would be a bit of a downer.
Slightly surprised by the duplicate Doctor Who item, but that is more filler than anything.
It may be of interest to know that the extra item in the premium box was a rubber duck shaped like Batman. Looks fun and almost wish I’d purchased that one.
I will be ordering Lootchest again. It’s rather a novelty in the UK and a change from the other subscription boxes out there. Do check Lootchest out if you’ve not already had the chance.
