I was impressed by the first ever release from Kewel Boxes last month and even more impressed to receive an email from the team behind Kewel Boxes. It’s always good to see a new UK company looking to grow and develop.

For their second delivery, Kewel Boxes decided to branch outwards with their theme to hit more different areas of fandom. Definitely a good idea. The December 2015 theme was the catchy “Old School – New Kewel”.

The standard price for a Kewel Boxes subscripion, paid by the month, is £19.98 GBP ($30 USD). That includes shipping within the UK. There are discounts available for longer subscriptions.

In an improvement from the first crate, Kewel Boxes shipped using Royal Mail. My box was held in the delivery office over Christmas, so this review is a few days later than I would have liked. The packaging is currently quite simple, but hopefully the company will get its own box design as the business grows.

The box came with a piece of paper mentioning the items, although the theme wasn’t mentioned on the paper, which is worth including. I’d forgotten what the theme was until I looked it up.

This was a nice weighty box, which is always a good sign for value for money.

Box Contents

Monty Python and The Holy Grail Sir Bedevere Funko POP! Vinyl

How good is this? What better to start off the box than a Funko POP! from one of the greatest films of all time.

I always think that geek boxes are missing a trick when they avoid looking at the classic (and quotable) film franchises like this one.

You can purchase the Sir Bedevere Funko POP! Vinyl on Amazon.com. This is a new release and still selling at a premium; I’ll price this at $15 USD.

Ghostbusters Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Plush

Another high value item which I’m happy to have received. This is an iconic figure from Ghostbusters and, even though I’m not the biggest fan of plushes, this is rather cute.

The Marshmallow Man Plush is available on Amazon.com. The selling price is around $12 USD.

Thunderbirds Brains Mug

This is an official mug, which comes nicely boxed.

You can buy the Thunderbirds Brains Mug on Amazon.com. This is slightly easier to get hold of in the UK, where it was produced, with a typical selling price of around $10 USD.

Another nice item to own.

Space Hopper Silicone Drinks Coasters

I own a lot of drinks coasters from different geek boxes, but most I would never use.

These are an exception. These are well-made, designed to be durable and easy to wipe and also look cool.

The Space Hopper coasters are available on Amazon.com. This is another UK manufactured item, and these carry a typical retail price here of $12 USD.

Candy Canes

A bit of candy is always a nice bonus in a geek box.

I won’t assign a value to these, but they are greatly appreciated.

Pac-Man Hand Warmers

This is one of the reasons I love geek boxes, getting hold of great novelty items which I just wouldn’t have known existed.

Plus, you can never go wrong with Pac-Man.

I believe that the idea of these is that they store heat, which is activated by pressing a switch, starting a chemical reaction. You can then hold them to warm your hands, or put them inside gloves to warm them before you wear them.

You can also heat them again after use.

You can buy the Pac-Man Hand Warmers on Amazon.com. The typical UK online selling price is around $10 USD.

Box Review

I have to commend Kewel Boxes for being to get all of these high value items and shipping them out at this price point.

I make that $59 of value, almost double the box cost price. Most importantly, there is no filler here and every item is one that I’d be happy to use or display.

My favourite items are the POP! Vinyl and the drinks coasters and this box just goes to show that it’s possible to create a high value package without including a T-Shirt.

Kewel Boxes is a company to watch. It is early days, but if they keep up this standard, they could quickly become one of the key players in the UK geek subscription box marketplace.
